High Court Extended Interim Bail for 15 Days
Despite recommendation not to further extend the interim bails of 3499 undertrial Prisoners given by The high powered committee constituted to decongest Delhi Prisons. The Interim Bail Extended by 15 days by Delhi high Court from their respective expiry of interim bails with effect from 20/02/2021. The decision was taken by the Bench of Justice SIDDHARTH MRIDUL and Justice TALWANT SINGH on 18/02/2021.
Mr. Kanwaljeet Arora, Member Secretary, Delhi State Legal Services Authority has informed this Court that the High-Powered Committee, in its meeting convened on 17.02.2021 at 05:00 pm has decided not to recommend the further extension of interim bails granted to 3499 UTPs under various criteria laid down by the HPC in its previous meetings.
He further informed the court that vide minutes of meeting dated 14.01.2021 while recommending the extension of interim bails to 3499 UTPs, it was resolved that the same was being done for last time and these UTPs were granted liberty to move to their respective courts seeking an extension of interim bails, or for seeking regular bails through their Private counsels Best Lawyers In Delhi or through DLSLA appointed lawyers. He also informs that vide minutes of the Meeting held yesterday this point was reiterated.
He informs this Court that as the meeting of HPC was held yesterday only i.e. on 17.02.2021 at 05:00 pm, therefore the Minutes of the meeting of HPC are yet to be signed by the members.
Mr. Kanwal Jeet Arora, Member Secretary, Delhi State Legal Services Authority is directed to place on record of this Court the Minutes of Meeting of HPC held on 17.02.2021 before the next date of hearing.
Mr. Sandeep Goel Director General (Prisons) has informed this Court that the Interim Bail Extended of 3499 UTPs is going to expire with the efflux of time with effect from 20.02.2021 onwards.
In view of these circumstances, the interim bails granted to 3499 UTPs expiring with effect from 20.02.2021 stand extended for a further period of 15 days from the dates when their respective interim bails shall expire.
The bench advised The Director General (Prisons) to ensure that, this order of Interim Bail Extended is conveyed to all the 3499 UTPs by telephone, as well as, through all other available modes. Mr. Kanwal Jeet Arora, learned Member Secretary, DSLSA shall coordinate with the Director General (Prisons) in this regard.
